Sylvia is a former international competitor and ballroom dance teacher qualified and registered with the Imperial Society for Teachers of Dance, London
She holds an Associate level (Highly Commended) qualification in the Ballroom style (A.I.S.T.D.B).

Sylvia spent her youth dancing competitively in both Latin American, Ballroom and New Vogue styles in Australia.  Her primary coaches and teachers were Douglas & Susan Potter in Sydney as well as Paul and Anne Wilson, Carol Kimmins and in Melbourne Neil Rosenfeld and Marc Wilson.  During her career Sylvia has been privileged to work with leading ballroom dance coaches including John Wood, Richard Gleave and Janet Gleave, Stephen Hillier, Michael & Vicky Barr, Bill & Bobbie Irvine and Marion, Kenny and Marion Walsh and Deny Trembley.

With her former Amateur dance partner she specialised in the ballroom style and competing with her New Zealand partner she achieved Runner-Up New Zealand Amateur Ballroom Champion and represented New Zealand twice at the World Amateur Ballroom Dancing Championships. Sylvia has competed and studied extensively appearing at all major championships including The British, International, UK, Australian, New Zealand, South Pacific, Prince Mikasa Cup and Asian Games.  She has appeared on stage and in television production work.

As a dance teacher, Sylvia has had the privilege of working with the world's foremost ballroom dance technicians Miss Janet Clark and Mr Ian de Souza. 

Sylvia teaches ballroom and latin american courses and drop-in classes at  The Ballroom, Chelsea

She is available for private tuition to the general public and competitors as well as for movement and posture workshops for dancers, schools
and dance camps.
